Dietitians Warn Against Self-Diagnosed Food Allergies, Australia

The growing trend of self-diagnosing food allergies and intolerances is placing Australians at greater risk of vitamin and mineral deficiencies, dietitians have warned.

The Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) said many people were wrongly attributing symptoms like a stuffy nose, stomach pain, bloating and headaches to food allergies and intolerances. But according to the leading nutrition organisation, these symptoms were often due to something else.

Studies indicate that up to 25 per cent of the population report to have a food allergy1,2.

But Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and spokesperson for the DAA Alison Graham said true food allergies affected less than two per cent of adults3.

'The number of adults being diagnosed with food allergies has remained constant, but the number of people incorrectly self-diagnosing food allergies and intolerances has skyrocketed,' Ms Graham said.

More of your love stories

At the florist shop, I search the green plastic buckets bursting with soft pale carnations, vibrant roses, and delicate lilies. I want the perfect rose to give to my new love. My last stop is the Christian bookstore to pick up some valentines for friends. There I run into my former softball coach from the church league, a single man and clearly lonely.

As I drive away from the bookstore, I sense the Lord telling me to go back in and give the rose to him. I couldn't imagine giving away that rose. I planned this for days. And the trouble I went through to find the perfect one. I stared down at the pink floral tissue. It was for my savior. And no one else. Then it is clear, what I want to give to God, he wants me to give away.

Does Alan Greenspan Deserve Credit For The Dot Com Bubble Too?

Over the last few months, there's been an increasing finger of blame pointed at Alan Greenspan, suggesting that his policies while running the Fed created the housing bubble which recently burst. However, others are going even further. A new book is suggesting not only is Greenspan responsible for the housing bubble, but he should take credit for the dot com bubble as well. While the book suggests this in a negative manner, as we've pointed out for years, bubbles aren't necessarily a bad thing -- except for the people who got swept up in the hype and invested at the wrong time. Historically, bubbles tend to act as a great driver of innovation by getting a lot of innovative ideas thrown against the wall quickly to see what sticks. While bursting bubbles tend to be painful, the "good" things that come out of them tend to be quite important.

Armaan Ebrahim is all joy after winning the Round 6 of

Armaan Ebrahim from Chennai overcame extreme conditions to take the chequered flag in the 28 lap Grand Race in Rd 6 of the Formula Renault V6 Asia Championship in Sentul, Indonesia.

The warm up session also did not go well for Armaan as the handling problems persisted. However Armaan's engineer, Patrick Roberts and his team put their heads down and made some changes to the car's suspension, giving Armaan the confidence that the car will be good for the race.

Starting 2nd on the grid, based on his 2nd place in sprint race, Armaan made a superb start and shot past pole sitter Aaron Lim into the 1st corner.

Three laps later, James Winslow from Britain passed Aaron Lim and was matching Armaan's lap times every lap.

Sure, sure, it's all been done before, but now I get to do it. Without further ado, here is my all-name team. 20 - Rod Smart - Who the Hell is Rod Smart you ask? Well he is none other than the fool who called himself "He Hate Me" and pretty much epitomized the debacle that was the XFL. 19. Elbert L. "Ickey" Woods - Running back his entire carreer for the Bengals. Hey, how many guys not named Humpty Hump have a dance named after them. The Ickey Shuffle remains high on the all time celebrations list. 18. "Chocolate Thunder" Darryl Dawkins - Perhaps more appropriate for wrestling or porn, but still has a nice ring to it. 17. "Pistol" Pete Maravich - LSU grad was a known practicioner of yoga, a part time ufologist, and could also play a little basketball. Died of a heart attack in 1988 at a young age.

Bad News Bear

No. Proto-imperialist? Maybe.

While we're unlikely to see a rivalry as bitter as in the permafrost days of the Cold War, Russia and America will clash on a host of issues.

Russia's feisty President Vladimir Putin steps down in March but he's expected to keep the real power, probably re-emerging as prime minister or "national leader." Certainly, his handpicked successor, Dmitry Medvedev, will closely cleave to "Putinism."

Since taking office in 2000, Putin worked to stabilize the Motherland and re-establish Russia as a global force - on par with the United States, China and the European Union. Medvedev's Kremlin is sure to continue pushing back against any "encroachment" on Russia's traditional sphere of influence in Eastern and Central Europe, the Baltic, the Caucasus and Central Asia - what Moscow calls its "near abroad."

Most recently, Russia objects to the United States putting a radar in the Czech Republic and deploying 10 interceptors in Poland to counter the Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile threat.

Vigil to protest Roe v. Wade anniversary

NATCHEZ — Tuesday marks the 35th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade.

For Pro-Life Natchez-Adams County co-chairman Virginia O'Beirne that's 35 years too long.

So in an effort to raise awareness and rally pro-life supporters O'Beirne and local church leaders will host a candlelight vigil atop the bluff on Tuesday evening.

O'Beirne said the entire community is invited to attend.

“This is a call to action," she said. “Four thousand abortions per day is just horrifying."

O'Beirne said in the 35 years since Roe v. Wade became law over 50 million abortions have been performed in the United States.

Many people are simply unaware of the amount of abortions that take place on a daily basis O'Beirne said.
