Coach's Corner: Santos in eighth year at soph helm

My junior year we took second and my senior year we went undefeated in league and finished second in the (Sac-Joaquin Section) and lost our (Northern California playoff) game by one point — all the way up in Redding. We played our section championship game at UC Davis. Now the girls play those games at Arco Arena; we got Davis, but it was still exciting.

UD: The section final that year, a 50-42 loss to Del Oro of Loomis, was frustrating for Sonora.

AS: Our center, Anne Zimmerman, got into foul trouble. We should have won that game.

UD: How did you get into coaching?

AS: I ran in to Shelly Kiriluk (then the head sophomore coach) one day and she asked if I would come down and be her assistant. When she left I became the head coach (in 2000-01).

UD: Kiriluk, who returned as the varsity assistant last season, is an outstanding coach.

ESPN's Berman On The Game

No costly penalties. No blown assignments in the secondary. No missed tackles in the open field. Excellent coverage by the special teams.

Hit Brady, early and often, on every passing play. Make him move his feet a lot. When the Giants took an early lead against the Patriots in the last game of the regular season, they had the star quarterback looking in both directions like a dog on a highway.

Pound Randy Moss, Wes Welker and other Patriot receivers. Make them hear footsteps so they're reluctant to go over the middle in the fourth quarter.

Employ short passes and a punishing ground attack to control the clock and keep Brady & Co. off the field.

Play a 60-minute game. The Baltimore Ravens, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Giants themselves all played tough against New England during the regular season and had images of upsets dancing in their heads.

Police burst into wrong apartment

HANAHAN — Brandie Williams sat on the couch of her family's apartment Sunday morning when someone pounded on the door and a voice shouted, "This is the Hanahan Police Department! Open up!"

The 15-year-old girl on Wednesday said she didn't have a chance to answer the door when police officers searching for a homicide suspect kicked it open and ordered her to the ground at gunpoint.

Working quickly, the officers then kicked a hole in the bedroom door where Brandie's mother, Tina, was asleep. Tina Williams said she was forced to her knees with two guns pointed at her face while her 13-year-old son, Brandon, was forced onto his stomach, a gun trained on his back. When all three were cuffed, an officer asked Tina Williams if she knew any Hispanic males. Williams was baffled.

It all turned out to be a mistake.

Small Goals Lead To Big Fitness Gains

Many people want to make changes in their bodies or fitness levels. They want to lose 15 pounds by spring, run a 5K or lower their blood pressure.

Those can be reachable challenges, but the key to getting there, experts say, is having smaller goals in between to ensure success from point A to point B.

Daily Blabber Celebrity Gossip Blog from iVillage Entertainment

They fast-forwarded through their relationship and now they're engaged, expecting and oh so annoying.

Naomi Watts rebounded from her heartbreak with Heath Ledger by taking up with Liev Schreiber in May. They're still going strong and recently visited Australia together.

Rumor had it Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn were dating when they were seen having dinner in February. But things didn't heat up until they wrapped the movie they made this summer. Now they're supposedly together, but they haven't been spotted together in weeks. I'm suspicious.

Mischa Barton dumped her millionaire boyfriend, Brandon Davis, for her hairy beast boyfriend, Cisco Adler. I saw them at the U2 show (love ya, Bono!) where she stood next to me while I was in the beer line and she loaded up her hotdog with condiments.

Divine Juno nod for Toronto “Nu-Funk” ensemble

For a band best known for their incredible live performances, a Juno nomination is a powerful tool.

Kaybe, male vocalist in the band God Made Me Funky (GMMF) says the Junos provide an avenue for spreading their unique sound across Canada, and hopefully across the globe. "More people will come out, see the energy and the good time that we have out there," said an enthusiastic Kaybe.

GMMF recently received their first Juno nomination: R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for their second album "We Can All Be Free." Rapper PHATT al could barely contain his delight. "We’re watching all the other nominees. They’re all people that we know and have seen great success happen to. To be honoured by being placed in the same category as these guys, it’s awesome! We’ve worked really hard to get here."

Nu-Funk?

Originally formed in 1996, the nine-member ensemble creates a style that’s hard to define.

Kevin Federline

According to an insider, the 26-year-old pop star was not permitted to take the boys, ages two and one, into another room without the others watching.

Also present was a blind chimp with a bazooka. It had been previously determined that, in the case of an emergency, if anyone should be left alone with the children, it should be the chimp. Or a box of old syringes. Britney, however, does have one opportunity to be left alone with her boys. But first she'd have to survive a nuclear holocaust and not be within 100 yards of a radioactive zombie. At which point, said zombie will be the children's primary caregiver. Britney's lawyer is currently fighting for shared custody with the zombie, but so far, no dice.
